Hearts Grow Closer: Manthan’s ‘Adopt a Child’ Journey

12-09-2024

financial aid, donors and students built meaningful connections, discovering

For two years, Manthan’s ‘Adopt a Child’ programme supported 200+ students from Vivekananda Public School. Beyond financial aid, donors and students built meaningful connections, discovering the true value of giving together.

When Manthan School embraced the ‘Adopt a Child’ programme, we set out to prove that real change begins with human connection. Over two transformative years, our community – parents, staff and students alike – became donor partners to more than 200 children from Vivekananda Public School. But this was never just about writing cheques.

Our leadership team made regular visits to the school, each trip revealing deeper layers of understanding. Students who joined these journeys returned with widened perspectives, their backpacks lighter but their hearts fuller. They saw firsthand how a shared lunch could become a bridge, how laughter over classroom games erased invisible barriers, and how simple acts of attention could mean more than any monetary gift.

What began as sponsorship evolved into something far more precious – mutual growth. While providing school supplies and essentials, we received unexpected lessons in gratitude. Our children discovered that privilege isn’t just about what you have, but what you choose to do with it. The programme’s true success wasn’t measured in donation amounts, but in the handwritten thank-you notes, the shy smiles during return visits, and the quiet realisation that generosity isn’t a transaction but a relationship.

As we look back on those two years, the most enduring gifts were intangible: our students learning that kindness is a currency that never depletes, and 200 adopted children knowing they’d been seen, valued and believed in. At Manthan, we didn’t just adopt children – we adopted a new way of seeing the world.
